Sahuaro Ranch Park is \"the crown jewel\" of Glendale, Arizona's parks. Anywhere you go on the historic ranch property you are greeted with the sharp wonderful cawing of peacocks. They are accustomed to people so they will at times wander right up to you, and other times like this one you have to kind of gently chase them to get a good photo of them.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eI like the title of this one because it tells a story of me hearing my wife call me over and being agitated because I knew she needed me to respond, but I was focused on getting the photo. Don't worry when I am wrong, I promptly admit it. I am madly in love with her. It goes with a cup of coffee or tea (if tea is your thing) and I hope you will think about being out in the sun doing silly childish things like chasing peacocks because they are just so cool. Life can throw serious and sometimes tragic things at us, but I absolutely insist on enjoying life. If you cherish these little moments in your life and meditate on them the hard times won't seem so hard and wherever you are I will pray for you. The 'Foreman's House' was a multi-resident house the foreman and the myriads of hired workers called home when they were working the ranch and harvesting. It was built in the late 1800s or early 1900s and replaced a more primitive adobe bunk house Bartlett called the \"men's quarters\". The joy in painting this was the various folks who stopped by to visit relating stories of how they grew up in and around this ranch which was still operating into the 1970s. Like many points in the growth and development of a city the Ranch fell into a period of neglect and the ranch was threatened with being absorbed into track housing and strip malls. But by the grace of God the people of Glendale bought 80 of the original 640 acres which included all the buildings including the Foreman's House. I was frequently traveling on business, and I found I could pack some simple canvas boards, acrylic paints, paintbrushes and a small palette in my travel suitcase. I often used hotel ice buckets for my water reservoir. This still life framed in a crisscrossing array of colors and patterns captures a slice of the life of a father, husband, traveling IT specialist, and artist. I have tenaciously held onto my dream of being an artist. The still life of flowers is a steady state image. It represents the part of virtually every father who wakes up, goes to work and does his job faithfully, pays his bills, and does his duty to attend church, sacrifice for his wife and children, and does what is right by them even if it hurts. The chaos around that flowery still life is emblematic of the competing forces that can drive a man in crooked directions. I praise God Almighty I am saved by the mercy and grace of Christ's sacrifice and have all my sins forgiven. It is of an historic pump house located at the Sahuaro Ranch Park. I love history and am drawn to old things like this. This pump house is a replica of pump houses like it which were built and installed in the early 1900s. Their need arose ironically because in the hot parched desert terrain of \"The Valley Of The Sun\" the water table had risen to the point the sedimentary salts and other minerals were harming crops. OK, wait a minute... there was too much ground water in the valley? - That's right. A small but important company called \"Salt River Project\" (today's SRP) began building and installing pump houses near canals and irrigation channels for the purpose of pumping deeper fresh ground water and thereby mitigating the damage. I see an analogy here in recovery. When we tap into the deep well of spiritual growth, we find fresh water that is good for living. \"Much has already been said about receiving strength, inspiration, and direction from Him who has all knowledge and power. If we have carefully followed directions, we have begun to sense the flow of His Spirit into us.\" - Alcoholics Anonymous page 85. \"If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.\" - John 7:37-38. Far and away my favorite thing to do is simply walk the Filbert Steps. It's free! with enchanting cliffside fields of flowers and breath-taking views of the bay. The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill may often be seen along the Filbert Street steps. The climb can be strenuous with hundreds of steps scaling up the East side of Telegraph Hill. By this point featured in my painting it is nice to take a pause and soak in the scenery and catch your breath.
