This is one of my older works when I was a couple of decades in recovery. I am still probably working through the tensions between my different worlds. I am drawn to details, but I also love the expressive nature of abstract painting. Maybe you can relate to a part of me that will always be young and wants to live free, be spontaneous, and have someone else pay all the bills - and the other part that understands reality and recognizes the need to do the next right thing like be orderly, get to work on time, prepare a budget, and pay your bills. There are more like this in my sketchbook. I felt this image of the flowerpot still life on a table surrounded by wild crazy color sort of captures the beautiful chaos that naturally comes with a life in twelve-step recovery. The universal sinful nature of man, and the universal desire within every man to know and be loved by God. Psalm 1:1-2 "Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night." So true to step Eleven my friends seek through prayer and mediation to improve your conscience contact with God. Why not work that step while enjoying a hot cup of coffee or herbal tea in this delightful mug and it's dishwasher safe.
