Foreman's House
Built as a residence for the employees of William Bartlett, the ranch's first owner. The 'Foreman's House' was a multi-resident house the foreman and the myriads of hired workers called home when they were working the ranch and harvesting. It was built in the late 1800s or early 1900s and replaced a more primitive adobe bunk house Bartlett called the "men's quarters". The joy in painting this was the various folks who stopped by to visit relating stories of how they grew up in and around this ranch which was still operating into the 1970s. Like many points in the growth and development of a city the Ranch fell into a period of neglect and the ranch was threatened with being absorbed into track housing and strip malls. But by the grace of God the people of Glendale bought 80 of the original 640 acres which included all the buildings including the Foreman's House. You can enjoy your tea or coffee while contemplating living in a red brick house in the saguaro desert with no running water and no air conditioning and everyone shares an outhouse. On your gratitude list today thank God for running water, flush toilets, hot showers, electricity in every room in your home, and a fun mug that is dishwasher safe!
