Number 1 of 4 Plein Aire paintings around Cheyenne, Wyoming in early fall of 2025 and finished in my studio. As an integral part of the nation’s first transcontinental railroad, the Union Pacific played a central role in the development of rail transportation in America. The Cheyenne Depot was completed in 1887. The Cheyenne Depot is the last of the grand 19th century depots remaining on the transcontinental railroad. Today it is surrounded by a plaza that hosts summer entertainment and new year celebrations. The building itself is home to the Depot Museum, a Brewpub and Restaurant, and visitor center. I was captured by the morning light on the tower contrasted by the shadow front side. It remains a special place to visit attracting visitors year-round.
