One of my paintings while living out of a suitcase. "What Are You Up To?" captures some vibrant imaginary moments laced in various life tensions and that almost inescapable feeling like I was being pulled in different directions ya' know home, mortgage, art, being a good father, at times being a bad husband, etc. Personally, one of my favorite pieces. You see a home, a big hand, a flip phone (which were already going out of fashion when I painted this), clouds and various arrows, angles, and stripes. These are the big forces driving my life and one must make it all work without having one thing topple the other. A lot of life is wedging activities in the gaps while pursuing the basics. The hand of God is always visible in my life.
I would like to suggest you abandon yourself to God. Admit your faults to Him and to your loved ones. Clear away the wreckage of your past. Go and be reconciled to parents, your children, and anyone else you feel right now you would not want to run into at the grocery store. Yes life is full of competing pressures but sometimes you have to wedge in the really really important stuff like forgiving someone and seeking forgiveness from someone. Herein lies the whole "What are you up to?" Are you just coasting or are you moving toward reconciliation even with those you intensely dislike? A colorful print of this painting might remind you of the important stuff in life.
